Tractor trailer damages property again in Centre Township

Frustration is mounting in a Berks County neighborhood along a nasty curve that has caused a lot of damage and a lot of accidents.
Another week brought another truck into a property in the 400 block of Bellemans Church Road in Centre Township.
"My only question and concern is when's it going to stop man, what's it going to take?" said Sal DeGenova, whose is tired of his house being hit. "We're going to be up there sleeping, and they're gonna end up killing us with the house collapsing or something."
DeGenova is pleading for PennDOT to take action. A tractor trailer slammed into his red car Monday night. Pieces of the tail light were left in the street, and a dent was left in his camper.
"They take the curve so tight at such speeds that somebody is going to get killed, and it's going to be whoever is walking the road or me just getting out of my car," said DeGenova.
According to DeGenova, this was the fourth accident in four weeks at his house, but there have been many more over the 12 years he's lived there. Chunks of the cement wall outside are missing, signs are destroyed and now residents are fed up.
"The road is dangerous. Somebody can get hurt and it feels like they're not going to do anything until someone dies," said Desirae Ransom, who lives across from DeGenova.
According to PennDOT, the crashes mostly involve wet pavement. To fix the problem, officials said next year they will put a high friction surfacing down to provide more grip.
Residents said that's not enough. They want tractor trailers banned and rumble strips put in to slow people down.
"One of these days someone is going to come around the corner and it's going to be into the tractor trailer head on," said Richard Goho, who lives around the curve.
DeGenova believed the trucks are getting lost from their GPS. He wrote a letter to Senator Judy Schwank, D-Berks, to get the problem addressed and fixed once and for all.
