A young man awaiting trial in connection with hitting and killing a jogger in Montgomery County has voluntarily gone to jail.

A young man awaiting trial in connection with hitting and killing a jogger in Montgomery County has voluntarily gone to jail.

The attorney for Justin Jackson said Jackson surrendered Tuesday.

Authorities said Jackson had marijuana in his system and he was texting when his vehicle hit Merinda Thompson in Limerick on March 4.

"The guilt and remorse he was feeling, basically, was just eating him alive, so he and his family approached me and said that he knew he had to do some period of incarceration because of this incident, so he asked me if he could start his jail time now," said Martin Mullaney, attorney.

Jackson had been free on bail since his arrest.
