Kutztown University students remain on edge following Friday's armed dorm invasion that left one person injured.
"The incident occurred around 1:45 in the morning. Our police were on the scene within a minute," said Matt Santos, director of university relations.
The victims were in their room in Deatrick Hall and got a knock at the door around 1:45 a.m., police said. When they opened the door, three men, two of whom had handguns, forced their way inside, police said.
The unknown intruders were dressed completely in black, including jackets, pants, shoes, gloves, skullcaps and an article of clothing that covered their face from the nose down, police said.
The would-be robbers searched the room and left without taking any property, but did hit one of the residents during the incident, police said.
"We will look at all of our security systems that we have in place: the front door, the swipe, you have to swipe a card to get in," said Santos.
Kutztown students said they are shocked by what happened.
"It doesn't make you feel comfortable. It doesn't make you feel good about your school," said Jess Kurts, a freshman who is friends with the victims. "It makes me think that what if we were down in the room when it happened, it's scary."
"We're here to better ourselves, get an education, and this simply is unacceptable," said Nicholas Imbesi, marketing chair of the university's student government board.
The student government organized a meeting Friday afternoon to discuss improved security measures that should be addressed with university officials, said Imbesi.
In the meantime, anyone with information about the dorm invasion can call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. The crime stoppers group is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
University police urge students to report any suspicious persons or activity by calling extension 34001. Confidential information can be given by dialing extension 3TIPS or 38477.
