MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

A natural gas leak prompted emergency officials to evacuate several businesses in Berks County late Wednesday morning.

The leak, officials said, was sparked by a gas line being struck by workers in the area of North 11th and Rockland streets, near the border between Reading and Muhlenberg Township. It happened around 11:20 a.m.

As a precaution, officials ordered the complete evacuation of two businesses and the partial evacuation of three others, including the Gus Yatron Postal Facility, for about an hour until UGI crews could stop the leak.

North 11th Street was also closed between Rockland Street and the Warren Street Bypass (Route 12).
