LEHIGH TWP., Pa. -

A New York man beat his wife inside and outside a home and then threw rocks and hurled death threats at her until a neighbor called police, officials said.

Steven C. Dergosits threatened to kill his wife and himself after throwing her to the ground and hitting her with rocks outside his grandmother's home in the 300 block of Mulberry Drive, Lehigh Twp., Northampton Co., at about 7 p.m. Friday, officials said.

Before attacking her outside, Dergosits grabbed his wife by the neck with one hand and started slapping her with the other inside the home after they began arguing while filling out her citizenship papers, officials said.

Police were called after a neighbor saw Dergosits' wife lying on the ground and heard Dergosits say, "I will put a bullet in you and a bullet in me. I have nothing to lose," officials said.

Dergosits later admitted to police that there were three long guns and ammunition inside his grandmother's home.

When police found Dergosits at an intersection near his grandmother's home, he said he had lumps on his head from the altercation, because he got mad and hit himself, officials said.

Dergosits also told police he only "lightly" slapped his wife to calm her down inside the home and "sprinkled" her with "light gravel" outside, officials added.

Dergosits, 37, Washingtonville, N.Y., was arraigned early Saturday morning on charges of assault, making terroristic threats and harassment and  committed to the Northampton County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. April 19.

Dergosits called our newsroom Wednesday evening.  He denies all allegations against him.
