Hundreds of local athletes laced up their sneakers and hit the track this morning in Lehigh County.
The Special Olympics held its annual track and field day at Whitehall High School. More than 600 athletes participated in a number of events, from the 50-yard dash to the long jump and the shot put.
Organizers said it's a really fun event for everyone involved.
"They can come out here, have some fun and just do their best. The main thing is to do their best, enjoy themselves and have a fun time," said Steve Denzel.
Hundreds of volunteers pitched into help with the competition, which is the Special Olympics' largest event of the year.
