BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

After almost three decades of service to the community, a local church organization is calling it quits.

Southside Ministries is a co-op of four congregations in south Bethlehem. Due to a lack of grants and volunteers, officials said the ministry is going to have to disband.

A Thanksgiving service this Sunday will be the group's final event, but its service will continue through other organizations.

"At that service, we will be awarding grants to about 10 agencies on the south side of Bethlehem who we feel can carry on the caring for the children," said Barbara Taylor, coordinator, Southside Ministries.

Officials said the ministries' remaining grants will be given to local schools, the Boys and Girls Club and the Hispanic Center, among others.

The Thanksgiving service will be held this Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in south Bethlehem.
