SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

The South Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to alter the billing format for refuse and recycling as well as an increase in the fee throughout the township effective January 1, 2013.

South Whitehall Township will be raising the refuse and recycling fee 20% from $285 annually to $344. Director of Administration Tony Ganguzza stated the reason for this increase is to balance the township’s expenses regarding refuse and recycling.

“We have balanced it now, I can assure you of that,” said Ganguzza.

According Ganguzza, the township will begin sending out only one bill per year to residents regarding refuse and recycling payment. Attached to the bill will be a set of coupons that residents must send in with their payment.

Residents can continue to pay the bill once per year or quarterly, but they will have to send in the appropriate coupon with their payment. The quarterly coupons will have the dates that payments are due printed on them to help remind residents when to pay the township.

Ganguzza said that reminders will also be posted in the township newsletter that is sent out in January and will also be posted on the township website to help remind residents of payment due dates.

“This is a great opportunity as a cost savings for the township,” stated Board of Commissioners President Christina Tori Morgan.

Ganguzza commented that the water payment will not be done by coupons and sewer payments will be sent out quarterly as they are now.
