A sixth grader in Reading got the surprise of a lifetime today.

It was a touching moment between father and son as U.S. Army Staff Sgt. William Jenkins surprised his son, Corey, during a school assembly.

"He could not wait. All he kept talking about to his teachers was I get to pick up my dad tomorrow," said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. William Jenkins. "And I wanted to surprise him today saying, 'Hey, I am home. You do not have to worry about it anymore."

Jenkins left for his third tour to Afghanistan nine months ago.

"It has been tough not being able to see them. We have been in contact through text messages or Skype or Facetime, however we could," said Jenkins.

Corey thought he was at the Northeast Middle School assembly to speak about the environmental club and said he was thrilled to see his dad.

"I am happy because my dad is home and we can spend more time together," said Corey.

"It was a tough nine months, but I am home now and that is all that matters. I am back, healthy and safe," said Jenkins.
