More than 110,000 square feet of metal and horsepower have turned the Lehigh Valley into "motor city." The Greater Lehigh Valley Auto Show starts its ignition Thursday.
It's a four-day event that showcases more than 300 of the best cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, motorcycles and ATVs from about 25 different manufacturers. Folks got a sneak peek at Wednesday's Preview Gala.
"It's a night where everybody gets a chance to see the new cars before anybody else does," explained Tom Kwiatek with the Lehigh Valley Auto Dealers Association.
The gala also raises money for a good cause. Every penny goes to St. Luke's University Health Network's HealthStar community health vans.
"The health vans go out to schools or community organizations to provide care on those sites to kids who normally wouldn't have access to such services," Kenneth Szydlow with St. Luke's University Health Network described.
The mobile units bring free dental, medical and vision services to children in the community who really need it. Last year about 3,500 patients were seen on the four vans.
Ticket holders got to enjoy the sights and sounds of the racing world as they moved through three racetrack-themed buildings. First was grand prix-style racing.
"As you come through the doors here at Stabler Arena, because it's all luxury cars, the theme is Le Mans," shared Kwiatek.
The movable feast continued with a trip down South. Dinner was surrounded by a Nascar theme.
"When you go into Rauch Fieldhouse where our domestic cars are it's Talladega," Kwiatek added.
The four-hour gala kicked into high gear with dessert in the West Pavilion AKA Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The auto show opens to the public at 10 a.m. Thursday and runs through 6 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children over six years old.
