Seafood Shanty Making A Comeback

Seafood Shanty hasn't been casting its net or reeling in customers since the early 90s. But it looks like the popular restaurant will be making a comeback.
Do you remember Seafood Shanty? Eddie Riegel does.
"It brings back a lot of the old time memories when I used to date my wife when I first met her and we used to go to the Seafood Shanty in Exeter Township where she grew up," said Riegel.
There were 14 locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
"How do you bring back what we all have as childhood, dating memories from a place, 20 years ago?" said Riegel.
He's going to try. And he plans to open the original Seafood Shanty in Broadcasting Square.
"We're not going to have fishnets and plastic lobsters hanging off the rafters like Joe did," said Riegel. "That's gone."
The decor will be different, but he was able to get recipes and information from the original owner Joe Gentile.
"Joe Gentile got into some issues with the banks and with the government," said Riegel.
Riegel said the restaurants closed in the early 90s because of the legal troubles.
"They didn't go down because he couldn't afford the bills," said Riegel.
But today's economic times are questionable.
"The debt crisis that's going on is scary," said Riegel. "They're saying 2013 is when you come out of the recession."
But he said people want something new.
"People are getting tired of national chains," said Riegel.
Riegel is fully aware of the economic landscape and the history of this location where Pizzeria Uno and Mason's Chophouse closed.
He said he's nervous, but confident.
"We just need to bank that we can do it bigger and better than everyone else," said Riegel.
He said construction will start next month and this restaurant could be reeling in customers in the new year.
