WYOMISSING, Pa. -

Authorities in Berks County are hoping to learn from an unthinkable attack on a school bus in Alabama.

School bus safety and preparing for the unexpected were topics at the "Keeping Kids Safe" symposium in Wyomissing on Wednesday.

The deputy chief with the Dale County Sheriff's Department in Alabama shared his experiences.

Tim McDonald was in charge earlier this year when a man shot and killed a school bus driver, kidnapped a boy and kept that boy in an underground bunker for a week.

"The primary thing I remember about that day was the officers coming together, all the different agencies, for a common goal and that was to save and rescue this child," McDonald.

We're told the boy who was kept in the bunker and all the students who were on the bus are doing OK.
