A once-popular seafood restaurant will reopen its doors in Berks County next month.

SPRING TWP., Pa. -

Seafood Shanty and its famed fisherman are almost ready for their comeback.

The restaurant announced Thursday it will open its doors at the Broadcasting Square shopping center in Spring Twp., Berks Co., on Feb. 7.

Seafood Shanty, the original of which got its start in Bucks County, will feature original, as well as revamped recipes.

"We wanted to bring back some of the original recipes and glory of the original Seafood Shanty, but with a twist to make it more modern," said Eddie Riegel, of Exeter Township, a longtime regular of Seafood Shanty who now owns the new restaurant. "We hope that old and new fans can enjoy the atmosphere and cuisine that we’ve worked so hard to create for them."

The atmosphere will include a nautical-inspired décor, including hand-blown glass jellyfish and a raw bar boasting mussels, clams, crab and oysters.

Riegel and his wife, Bonnie, said they decided to bring back the favorite dining destination for the first time since the original chain closed its locations in the early 1990s. The couple also said they are already looking at locations to open more restaurants in the greater Philadelphia area.
