John Craven joined WFMZ 69 News as a reporter in May 2011. For John, reporting the news is like the TV show, "Quantum Leap;" each day you leap into someone else's life for a short time. It's a one-day crash course. On Monday, you may be interviewing the governor, and Tuesday, you're talking to lifeguards at the pool. The variety of the job means that no day is quite like the last.

John's reporting career began at age seven, when he produced a newspaper with some less-than-flattering details about his mom. (She's still deciding whether to forgive him.) Since then, John has spent 15 years in journalism and communications, including stops in New York, Texas, and Virginia. In Texas, John covered the Shuttle Columbia disaster, President George W. Bush's Crawford ranch, and, arguably, too many sessions of the Texas Legislature. He also led an investigative reporting unit in Austin, winning the 2007 Texas AP award for Beat Reporting. In 2009, John gladly traded the 107 degree Texas summers for the Northeast's snowy winters, moving to Manhattan to work in publicity for two years.

John grew up in Virginia Beach, VA. He has degrees from Wake Forest University (where he got to watch Tim Duncan play basketball) and the State University of New York. In his spare time, John enjoys politics and history, watching sports, road trips, and driving way too far to find good BBQ and Italian restaurants.

If you have a story tip, John would be glad to investigate it. Please drop him an email.
