SALISBURY TWP., Pa. -

While we're enjoying nice weather now, you never know what fall and winter may bring.

Peter Brown, the new CEO of the American Red Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, is getting the word out about National Preparedness Month, which is September.

Brown said you should stock up on candles, water and food you may need in an emergency. The Red Cross also suggests updating your list of emergency contacts.

"A little bit of time today will save you a lot of grief if and when the disaster happens," Brown said. "With preparedness, you're always getting ready for something you hope doesn't happen, but when it does, it makes it a lot easier to deal with."

Brown was named regional CEO of the Red Cross in April. He started as a leadership volunteer and treasurer with the organization and has served as a board member of the Lehigh Valley chapter since 2000.
