Starting in May, Reading residents will be digging a little deeper to cover the cost of curbside trash and recycling collection.
The city is making two options available for residents. One plan costs $29.02 a month. It'll cover trash, recycling, and yard waste collection.
The other plan is for people with private trash haulers. It'll cost about $11.48 a month.
The change is being made after a resident challenge the legality of the city charging a recycling fee.
"Now we're looking at a curbside waste collection program that we believe, based on case law, will get us to the services that our city taxpayers deserve," said Mayor Vaughn Spencer, D-Reading.
The fees will be slightly lower next year when they're spread out over 12 months.
