ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Protesters took to the streets outside Allentown City Hall on Wednesday.

The Tenant Association of Allentown organized the protest in response to a perceived slumlord problem in the city.

Protesters said slumlords are to blame for declines in property values, unsafe rental conditions and quality of life issues. They said they want to see the city transition from a 5-year inspection cycle to a point system of inspection.

Officials with Mayor Ed Pawlowski's office said the city conducted thousands of housing inspections last year, and hundreds of those properties were tagged as unfit or unlawful.

City Council also passed a law last December that created a foreclosed property registration process.
