Proof Positive: Delaware Golden Retriever Rescue

Sometimes man's best friend could use a hand. Such as Tracey, a golden doodle that was rescued from a puppy mill by Delaware Golden Retriever Rescue. She was brought to their rehabilitation facility about an hour from Allentown on the Berks, Lancaster County line.
"When she first came in we noticed she was really shy, and kind of shut down," trainer Heather Hatt said.
Tracey is a perfect candidate for the groups Project Homelife. A home-like-apartment complete with microwave, washer, dryer, TV all the things dogs will need to get used to. It's meant to make the canines more comfortable and used to sharing space with humans.
"A lot of these dogs are used to living outside in a barn or in crate, cage. They're not used to being indoors. So it's scary and confining for them," Hatt said.
But to breed success, volunteers like Carol Hoskinson,, who comes in once or twice a week, are needed.
"They all deserve a chance and this gives them that extra special chance at a home," Hoskinson said.
Robin Adams started the rescue. So far she's helped more than 3,000 dogs find homes. She's says she couldn't do it without the help of volunteers.
"We rely on volunteers to walk the dogs, to help socialize on Project Homelife and to go to community events," she said.
Project Homelife head Heather Hatt says to be a volunteer, keeping calm is key.
"Not loud or boisterous with dogs because these dogs need a lot of patience and quiet time in the beginning," she stressed.
But as the snouts show, it's time well spent.
This Saturday, the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue is having a "walk and wag" fundraiser at the Lehigh Parkway in Allentown.
