A local effort is under way to help Lehigh Valley residents whose homes were damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

Officials on Wednesday announced the details of a program organized by theĀ  Lehigh Valley Disaster Relief Task Force.

Residents of Lehigh and Northampton counties whose homes were damaged by Sandy are eligible for up to $1,000 worth of repairs as part of the program.

There are some restrictions. Homeowners have to be over the age of 65 or have physical limitations that prevent them from making the repairs themselves. Their household income also has to meet certain requirements.

"If possible, the volunteers, once they're at the home, will complete repairs. If it's too complicated for that, they will take the information that we then need to hire a contractor to complete the work," said Hal Black, organizer.

If you think your home is eligible for the program, or if you want to volunteer to do repairs, you can call the C.A.C.L.V. at 610-691-5620.
