Police are questioning three people after a man was gunned down on the streets in Pottsville, Schuylkill County. And we've learned the victim had roots in Reading.
Family members said Elijah Carraway lived in Pottsville with his dad. But his mom was a Reading High graduate and he still has his grandmother and aunt living in Reading.
Tuesday night after 8:30 in Pottsville police responded to a shooting.
"I was in my living room," said a witness.
The woman didn't want to be identified said she called the police after finding shell casings on West Laurel Boulevard.
"I saw a guy dressed in black," she said, "A black guy shooting down the street with a gun and he turned around ran back up the road got into a green station wagon. And they drove off."
Police said the car led them to three people they later arrested in Philadelphia: 26-year-old Anthony Ballard, his brother 24-year-old Dustin Ballard and 19-year-old Jamiee Watson. All three were arrested. And investigators expect to bring them back to Schuylkill County.
"I couldn't believe it was actually happening outside of my home," said the witness.
She later learned a 19 year old was killed.
"How can anybody justify that?" she said, "Nobody deserves to die like that and to find out they're only 19. It's a waste of a life."
Police said Elijah Carraway was ambushed on the street.
"I feel sorry for the family because I have three sons and I have grandchildren," said Nancy Schriner of Pottsville.
Carraway's family is grieving. They said he moved around. He went to high school in North Carolina. And then he was enrolled in Exeter High School from August to October 2011 and played football for the Eagles. He then went to school in Pottsville.
Carraway's mom now lives in North Carolina. Her sister said she plans to come up here to be with her family.
