Many people around the region are ringing in the new year with a traditional feast of pork and sauerkraut.

While many are enjoying their meal with family and friends at home, some are letting others do the cooking.

Volunteers with the Ruscombmanor Fire Company in Berks County serve up hundreds of hot dinners each New Year's Day, and this year was no exception.

The pork and sauerkraut dinner is the fire company's biggest fund raising event of the year.

St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Robesonia, St. John's Lutheran Church in Sinking Spring and St. John's Lutheran Church in Hamburg also served up traditional pork and sauerkraut meals on Tuesday.

The tradition is that eating pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day will bring good luck in the new year.
