Police use social media to track down shoplifting suspect, Billy Ray Inman

A man who stole jewelry from a Walmart store last week was arrested after police used social media to track him down, officials said.

Billy Ray Inman Jr. was the man caught on surveillance video taking $80 worth of merchandise from the jewelry counter at the Walmart store at 3926 Nazareth Pike, Bethlehem Twp., Northampton Co., at about 3:25 p.m. Jan. 15, officials said.

Police discovered Inman's identity after a tipster saw his photo posted on the Bethlehem Township police department's Facebook page and told officers that Inman's home address was  728 Center St., Bethlehem, officials said.

Police got the Inman's photo from the surveillance video, and it showed the dreadlocked suspect wearing oversized headphones and a black jacket with a distinctive logo, officials added.

Inman, 36, was arraigned Tuesday night on a retail theft charge and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $7,500 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Jan. 30.
