It's a parent's worst nightmare -- a 15-year-old girl nearly kidnapped in broad daylight.
The attempted abduction happened at the Valero gas station on State Avenue in Lyons, Berks Co., said police.
"That's pretty sick," said Andre Keim, a parent in the borough. "We have a lot of kids in the neighborhood. We're afraid what might happen to them when they're unattended."
Parents in Lyons are keeping a close eye on their children. The victim told police she was almost forced into a vehicle after leaving the gas station around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 5.
"It's the one thing we worry about the most, and we want to make sure we can see where they're going and know they're safe," said Keim.
The young girl was inside the convenience store for only a few minutes. She came in to buy a drink and the guy started talking to her inside and then continued the conversation out in the parking lot, said police.
Once outside, the man reportedly grabbed the girl's wrist and pulled her to his vehicle.
"He let go of her wrist as he was opening the door to the car, and that's when she ran," said Trp. David Beohm, Pa. State Police.
The man was described as white, possibly Hispanic, 30-years-old with dark hair and a mustache, and he's 5 feet, 7 inches tall, said police.
The victim told police the man was driving a black pickup truck with a cap or an SUV, and a white woman with brown hair in a ponytail was sitting in the passenger seat.
"We're still trying to track down people and possible witnesses," said Beohm.
The victim's mother just found out about the attempt and reported it to authorities.
"It's scary now. You hear about it in the cities, but not in a little town like this," said Ken Sallada, who lives in Lyons with his young family.
Anyone with information is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police in Hamburg.
