A New Jersey man is facing a slew of charges after dousing a mobile home with gasoline and threatening to set it on fire with the owner, the owner's friend and her young daughter inside, officials said.
William Hubbard broke into the 1974 GMC mobile home at 805 Canal St., Easton, and began fighting with the owner, Drew Freeman, after he had poured gasoline on the outside of the home at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.
Hubbard entered the mobile home through a side door, grabbed Freeman by the throat and pushed him into a counter, but he backed out of the home when he heard police sirens, officials said.
Before breaking in, Hubbard was banging on the outside of the home trying to get Freeman to come out, but when he would not, Hubbard started pouring gasoline on the outside, officials said, adding that Freeman told police he overheard Hubbard asking, "Do you smell that?"
Nicole Caeeres, who was inside the home with her 2 1/2-year-old daughter, said she heard Hubbard say, "You're all going to burn," officials said.
Police found Hubbard standing outside the home with a red plastic gas can on the ground nearby, officials said.
After a search, Hubbard was found to have a blue plastic lighter and a pair of blue latex gloves, officials said.
Hubbard, 46, of 627 South Main St., Phillipsburg, Warren Co., was arraigned on charges of burglary, possessing incendiary material with the intent to commit a crime, making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, criminal trespass and harassment.
He was committed to the Northampton County Prison on $150,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Feb. 21.
