Police: SUV jumps curb, travels through yard, hits propane tanks in Laureldale

A couple are breathing a sigh of relief after an out-of-control SUV slammed into several propane tanks on their Laureldale, Berks County, property.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash at Elizabeth Avenue and Noble Street just after 9 a.m. Monday, police said.
The woman driving an SUV ran a stop sign and hit a vehicle belonging to Jacqueline Powers, police said.
"She told me that her brakes stopped working, so when I came down, she just kept going," said Powers, of Fleetwood.
As the driver was traveling south on Noble Street, police said she ended up maneuvering her SUV through the backyard of Clark and Avalion Bossler, who were not home at the time.
"We were delivering boxes for Operation Christmas Child to a church over in Sinking Spring, so we were called by a neighbor telling us that someone ran in our yard," said Avalion Bossler.
"It's unbelievable that this woman came in this far off the road and did all the damage that is done here on my yard," said Clark Bossler.
The SUV, police said, jumped a curb, drove over bushes and flower beds, hit a part of the Bossler's deck and knocked over their grill. Luckily, Clark Bossler said, the driver avoided taking a nose-dive into their pool.
Along the way, however, fire officials said the SUV hit multiple propane tanks on the Bosslers' property.
"They were just about all filled up way to the top," said Bossler.
"I heard the noise of it, and that's why I didn't want to go back there," said Powers.
No one was severely injured, police said. The Bosslers said they're breathing a huge sigh of relief and are extremely grateful the tanks didn't explode.
"Material stuff gets fixed. Lives don't," said Powers.
