State Police at Dublin said a woman who was a passenger in a vehicle that hit a police cruiser Thursday night has passed away.
The accident happened on Route 309 South between the Perkasie and Telford exits in West Rockhill Township, Bucks County.
Pennridge Regional Police responded to the area to assist a mini-van that had become disabled from driving over vehicle debris in the roadway, State Police said.
Two Pennridge cruisers were parked behind each other at the scene assisting the van, with emergency and hazard lights activated, police said. The officers from both patrol cars were on foot outside the cruisers, according to police.
Officers said the van, driven by Elwood Nice, 83, of Telford struck the left rear corner of one of the police cruisers. Police said the impact momentum caused a chain reaction crash, causing the second cruiser to be hit, as well as one of the officers who was on foot.
Police said Lois Weber, 86, of Telford was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital where she later died. Another passenger, Regina Nice, 76, was seriously injured, according to police.
Route 309 was shut down for hours after the crash and traffic had to be detoured.
State Police are still investigating the crash and said the use of seatbelts is still under investigation.
