Two convenience store employees were terrorized and held up at gunpoint after a late-night armed robbery in Kenhorst, Berks Co.
The masked men were in and out of the Turkey Hill store in an instant, but they left the employees and the community shaken.
"It's scary, I mean jee zum," said Stanley Okonski, who lives directly next store to the Turkey Hill at High Boulevard and New Holland Road.
Okonski was horrified to learn the popular corner convenience store was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night around 10:20 p.m.
"I know pretty much near all of them, the manager and several young kids you know, wow yeah that's scary," said Okonski.
Two Hispanic men wore bandanas to cover their faces, and they burst into the building armed with a gun, said police.
"One of the individuals immediately pointed a gun at the clerks and demanded money. The second individual jumped over the counter and pushed the clerk away from the register," said Sgt. John Solecki, Reading Police Dept.
The robbers terrorized the clerks, a 61-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, and demanded money. The clerks were pushed and yelled at, and within a minute the men were out the door with cash, said police.
"It was quick. They came in and immediately announced it was a robbery," said Solecki.
"It's just something going on that's not right," said Katie Skorupsky, who lives in Kenhorst.
Skorupsky was worried crime is taking over her neighborhood. Three weeks ago, a man was shot a few blocks away at Wash Around the Clock Laundromat on Fern Avenue. Skorupsky said some of her neighbors' homes were also burglarized this summer.
"It's scary that's going on in the neighborhood," she said.
Police described the two men who robbed the Turkey Hill as being very tall, about 6 feet, 3 inches tall with a thin build.
Luckily, both of the clerks were not hurt.
