Police: John P. Fran now in custody for 5-store crime spree in 2012

WILSON, Pa. -

A man stole more than $6,000 in cash and merchandise from five businesses and did more than $2,500 in damage on a one-night spree in late January of last year, officials said.

John P. Fran was arrested for burglarizing and robbing George's Pizza, 2049 Freemansburg Ave.; Delsco Flooring, 2015 Freemansburg Ave.; Aunt Bessie's Car Dealership, 1650 Butler St.; Easton Auto Exchange, 1845 Freemansburg Ave., and Butler Auto Sales, 1701 Butler St., all in Wilson, Northampton Co., sometime in the early morning hours of Jan. 30, 2012, officials said.

Fran took $350 from George's Pizza and did $600 in damage to the front door and $400 to the cash register; stole $250 in cash, a $700 Dell laptop and a $150 cordless phone from Delsco Flooring and did in $75 damage to a door, and made off with $400 in cash and four Toshiba laptop computers worth $3,144 from Aunt Bessie's and did $350 in damage to a cash drawer and $800 to two windows, officials said.

Also, Fran stole $600 in cash, a $180 safe, $220 in vehicle titles and an $80 air tool kit from Easton Auto Exchange and damaged a garage door worth $300, and shattered the glass front door to Butler Auto Sales, officials said.

Police interviewed Fran on Feb. 20, 2012, after a Wilson officer thought he recognized Fran from surveillance tapes supplied by the businesses, officials said, adding that Fran allowed officers to take digital photos of himself.

Fran, 35, of 2140 Hay St., Wilson, was arraigned Saturday morning on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and criminal mischief and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $500,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. April 19.
