Mahoning Twp. accident

MAHONING TWP., Pa. -

A scary accident Tuesday night in Carbon County sent two people to the hospital.

It happened just after 9 p.m. along Route 209 in Mahoning Township, in an area known as Mansion House Hill.

Officials at the scene said a small pickup truck driven by 77-year-old Robert Stidham of Jim Thorpe for unknown reasons crossed the double yellow line and slammed head-on into a tractor trailer before flipping over.

The 18-wheeler was driven by 46-year-old Robert Mitchell of Glassboro, N.J.

The pickup truck rolled over several times and firefighters had to remove the roof to get Stidham out, police said.

Stidham was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment, while Mitchell was taken to Lehighton Hospital.
