BETHEL TWP., Pa. -

PetSmart officials said a solid workforce and great location are the reasons they decided to open a distribution center in Berks County.

The ribbon was cut at PetSmart's 870,000-square-foot distribution center at Berks Park 78 in Bethel Township on Friday morning.

The center will bring at least 500 jobs to the area by 2016.

PetSmart will distribute pet food, leashes, toys and fish and reptiles from the center.

"This has really been the culmination of a three year journey starting when we thought about identifying a location in the northeast to service our stores in the northeast and we couldn't be more excited to be here in Berks County," said David Lenhardt, CEO, PetSmart.

This is PetSmart's ninth distribution center. PetSmart has 55 stores in Pennsylvania, including two in Pennsylvania.
