PennDOT signs off on man's tractor trip for wounded veterans

A Chester County man who plans to drive his tractor across America has scored a huge victory. He will now be able to drive through his home state of Pennsylvania.
C. Ivan Stoltzfus wants to drive his 1948 John Deer Tractor across America, all to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project, but he hit some major road blocks when it came to crossing Pennsylvania.
"It was devastating, and the thought came through my mind, do I want to continue.? But I kept thinking I am committed. I am doing it, one way or the other," said Stoltzfus.
PennDOT initially told Stoltzfus he needed permits in every township and a traffic study, but with the help of his state representative, Gordon Denlinger, Stoltzfus got the secretary of transportation to sign off on a special petition, allowing him to drive across the state and giving him a police escort.
"Ultimately, it came down to trying to get bureaucracy, the red tape untied, and really help a gentleman who is trying to do something very worthy," said Pa. Rep. Gordon Denlinger, R-Lancaster Co.
Stoltzfus said he was relieved when he got the news.
"I was excited. I was thrilled. I thought now we can move ahead and do other things that we need to do," said Stoltzfus.
And others said they are happy he will get the chance to reach his $1 million goal for the Wounded Warrior Project.
"We bring the warriors back from the battlefield and we want to forget about them. You cannot do that. They went out there and paid the price for us so we have to help them," said Stoltzfus's cousin, Lloyd King.
Stoltzfus plans to stop at several VA hospitals along his journey. He will leave New Jersey on April 26 and he hopes to make it to California in three months.
