Pawlowski for governor?

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Pawlowski for governor?  It's possible.

Allentown's mayor is seeking re-election but he's also expected to make a decision on a possible run for governor in the next few days.

While Ed Pawlowski is seeking re-election to a 3rd term as Allentown's mayor, a non-profit Corporation in the name of 'Pawlowski for Governor' has been created.

Right now the race for Governor is crowded, but there's no individual that's dominating the playing field and according to a Political science professor from the Lehigh Valley that could help the mayor in what's being considered a challenging race.

For the past year and a half it appears Mayor Ed Pawlowski of Allentown has been considering throwing his hat into the ring for the Democratic Nomination for Governor in 2014.

But this year, Pawlowski is seeking re-election to a 3rd term as Allentown's mayor.

While his campaign manager says the Mayor is expected to make a decision in the next few days about whether to run for governor, a non-profit organization called Pawlowski for Governor has been incorporated in Harrisburg.

"Anytime a mayor is seeking a higher office they'll always be questions about his commitment to his current job," said Political Science expert Chris Borick.  "Is he focused on his role of Mayor?  It'll be an act he'll have to do some balancing in."

Borick is a political science professor at Muhlenberg College in Allentown.

He says while the field is crowded right now there are no front runners in the Democratic primary for Governor, but that won't make Pawlowski's possible run any less challenging.

"He's clearly a well known entity in the Lehigh Valley and in Allentown but his name recognition beyond the Lehigh Valley is poor," said Borick.

And Borick says, while it's imperative to build a statewide network within democratic circles across the state, Pawlowski's possible campaign would most likely tout his efforts in downtown Allentown's Arena project.

The current arena project is the staple of efforts of Pawlowski administration.

If Pawlowski begins a 3rd term next January, he immediately would be running against other Democratic candidates for governor leading up to the primary election in May.
