A plane crash in Holland Township, New Jersey has left one man dead and officials searching for answers.
Seventy-one year old Joseph Borin died in the crash.
Investigators spent most of Thursday collecting evidence.
Investigators say they collected a portable GPS unit and other items that may show to where Borin was flying.
They are hoping other evidence could lead them to why the crash happened.
People living on Route 627 in Holland Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey say it was foggy, but they heard the plane loud and clear.
It sounded like it was flying low, but at a really high rate of speed," said Ray Eichlin, a person living close to the crash site.
"Not being able to see anything and hearing it, and you knew it was that close, it was pretty scary," said a local farmer in the area.
Investigators say Borin was flying a single engine American Champion plane.
The National Transportation Safety Board has been on the scene much of the day.
"Many times, the focus is what caused the accident, what do you think caused the accident," said NTSB Air safety investigator, Dennis Diaz. "We're not going to be talking about that today."
Investigators say the crash site is near power lines and down an embankment, but they were able to collect a lot of evidence.
"One of the devices is a portable GPS unit that we hope will give us additional insight as to the path of the airplane as it proceeded." added Diaz.
Some believe Joseph Borin was flying to the Alexandria airport near Pittstown, New Jersey, according to the Hunterdon County prosecutor.
A worker there wouldn't go on camera, but confirms the airport was Borin's home base.
The worker tells 69 News Joseph Borin was a decent pilot and a good human being.
