Officer accidentally shoots himself during gun training

A Montgomery County cop has been hurt after literally shooting himself in the foot.

HATFIELD TWP., Pa. -

A police officer accidentally shot himself in the foot during a training exercise Tuesday, officials said.

The accident happened around 10:45 a.m. at the police shooting range at 304 County Line Dr. in Hatfield Twp., Montgomery Co.

Sgt. Stephen Gillen of the Upper Gwynedd Twp. Police Dept. was conducting annual firearms training when his gun accidentally fired as he was taking it out of its holster, officials said.

Gillen, a 23-year-veteran of the force, was hit in the left foot. He was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Upper Gwynedd police are investigating the incident.
