Charlotte Bacon's wish

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. -

Shockwaves from the elementary school mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut have reached Berks County.

One of the little victims of the senseless massacre, Charlotte Bacon, 6, was the daughter of 1988 Conrad Weiser High School graduate, Joel Bacon.

One of little Charlotte's last wishes was to wear her pink holiday dress with her white boots.

Charlotte begged her mother, and finally her mother said yes. Charlotte bravely lost her life in the dress she loved so much.

Charlotte's uncle says she "could light up the room for anyone" and "was going to go some places in this world."

Sunday, classmates of Charlotte's father put up green and white ribbons, the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary.

At her father's alma mater, Conrad Weiser, administrators tried to comfort and help students cope with this devastation.

"It's tough, it's tough because they're thinking about what happened up in Connecticut, what would have happened if that had been us," said Superintendent Randall Grove.

In the wake of this tragedy, tough questions are being asked, such as: Are Berks County schools prepared should a similar tragedy strike our region?

Administrators at Berks County Intermediate Unit say they are ready, and in the process of revising their already meticulous emergency response plans, all to make sure students never have to go through this unspeakable tragedy.
