World Series of Cycling returns to Lehigh Valley for new season

TREXLERTOWN, Pa. -

A new season of professional bicycle racing starts tomorrow, right here in the Lehigh Valley.

The Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown is set to kick off its 2012 season.

For the next 12 Friday nights you can watch athletes, including Olympians, from all over the world compete. They'll be racing around the 28-degree banked track at the Velodrome.

Marty Nothstein, Executive Director and 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist, says you don't have to be an expert about racing to have fun. "You're going to see riders go head to head at speeds in excess of 45 miles per hour, racing inches apart. Plus, you're going to be exposed to some incredible entertainment through our VeloPlaza. We're going to have magicians on hand, free face painting for the kids," said Nothstein.

General admission tickets are $5 and kids under 12 are free. The races start at 7:30p.m. on Friday nights.
