Neighbors on edge after pizza driver robbed in Reading

Neighbors along Spruce Street in Reading are shaken up after a pizza delivery man was robbed at gunpoint.

A pizza delivery man was leaving Papa John's Monday night to deliver a pizza to the 1200 block of Spruce Street around 10:30pm. Police tells us after he made the delivery, he was walking back to his vehicle when a man approached him from behind, held a gun to him and demanded money.

"Oh boy. That is a shame. It is really a shame," said Reading resident Trudy Kauffman.

Trudy Kauffman lives on the corner of 12th & Spruce Streets in Reading. Her house has been robbed three separate times. So it is no surprise to her to find out about the pizza delivery robbery.
"It is actually not a bad neighborhood. It is just that people think you have something on you or you look like you have money, then they try it out," said Kauffman.

But others in the neighborhood disagree.
"It is actually a shock to me because I have never heard of something like that happening," said Reading resident Rose Mira.

Another neighbor says there were some vehicles broken into recently but other than that, no major crimes have happened.

"Last time something big like that happened was when the corner store got robbed up there and that was a couple years back. Other than that, it is been very quiet around here," said Reading resident Ellis Garman.

But for Trudy Kauffman, this armed robbery is just another sign that it is time for her to move from this neighborhood.

"The policeman are pretty good with checking around here you know. It is just one of those things that happens. So we are happy we are moving," said Kauffman.

Authorities say the robber took off on foot. They have not released how much money was taken. At this time police do not have a description of the suspect.

The managers of Papa John's declined to speak with us on camera. But they did tell us that after Monday night's incident, the delivery man decided to quit his job.
