Nazareth excited for its 2nd-ever Freddy nominations

Thursday night the curtain will rise for the 11th annual Freddy Awards, honoring the best in student theater. For the last two weeks performers from 30 high schools in the region have been perfecting their acts, all for this. Last night we checked in with a cast that's relatively new to the annual awards show.
"I'm just really proud of you guys, and I think you're going to do a great job."
Waiting backstage Wednesday night, Nazareth Area high school's cast was buzzing with excitement. This is the school's second year involved with the Freddy's, and their first time performing as an entire cast.
"We're all really, really proud," smiled junior Jenn Finn. "And we all realize that we did this together and we couldn't have done it without each other."
Nazareth is nominated for 11 awards including Best Overall Production for their performance of 'Anything Goes'.
"We were just majorly surprised that it happened," shared Director Danielle Baclawski Scheller. "Definitely honored seeing all the talent among the kids."
While they're facing some tough competition, the students say they're just going to focus on enjoying the evening.
"It's a great moment to remember," added freshman Talia Johnson. "It's going to go by quickly so we're going to have to remember it."
"To me, as much as I would love to win, it's not about the awards," explained senior Vanessa Ruggiero. "They've said it so many times it's a celebration of theater, and that's what it truly has been and I'm just so happy to have been a part of it."
The energy is high in here right now, but it's nothing like what you'll see when the show starts. The curtain rises at 7PM.
