For more than a century National Geographic has inspired people to care about the plane with vivid images and reporting from across the globe.
Now, the the society is hoping to inspire tourism in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains.
When you think National Geographic you think of incredible nature, photography and travel.
The iconic society is celebrating its 125th birthday in part by releasing a destination and touring map of the Pocono Mountains.
"The map is the greatest of all epic poems. Its lines and colors show the realization of great dreams," sais Juan Jose Valdez of National Geographic Maps.
As you would expect, gorgeous photos from natural attractions in Monroe, Carbon, Pike and Wayne Counties are featured in the condensed guide book.
National Geographic gave a copy of the map to Pennsylvania First lady Susan Corbett.
"The welcome mat is out here in the Northeast, in the Pocono Mountains," said Corbett.
"Last year we had 179 million travelers come through our state, they generated $34 billion in revenue for us," said Carolyn Newhouse, Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
Newhouse says to coincide with the map's release, the state is re-launching its VisitPA website to include a "find a destination" feature, 43 regional road trips, statewide room reservations and a state beer, wine and food section.
The Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau says the new web site and map should help draw in more tourists.
"Our hope is that our new map of the Pocono mountains will inspire people to explore this fine region and enjoy all that it has to offer. After all, life is greater in the Pocono mountains, " said Valdez.
National Geographic is also releasing a new recreation atlas of Pennsylvania and two new trails maps of the Allegheny National Forest.
