Naked haunted house controversy continues

News of the "Naked and Scared Challenge" at this year's Shocktoberfest in Berks County spread across the community faster than you could undress.
"Honestly, it is kind of weird," said Travis Grassley, of Hamburg.
"It is a different idea. I do not know that they would get a lot of people to do it. I know I would not be doing that," said Gregg Newkirk, of Sinking Spring.
But getting naked was still an option until Thursday when Spring Township officials stepped in and denied the permit.
The scream park submitted its application months ago, but according to Spring Township officials, they never included details of the new naked challenge.
"He did not follow the guidelines. That is the reason we are denying it," said Spring Township Manager Jay Vaughan.
Berks County Commissioner Christian Leinbach also disapproved, calling the event an embarrassment to Berks County.
On his Facebook page, he said, "Someone that would introduce this to our community in order to make a buck doesn't think much of our community."
Some in the community said they are not surprised it was denied.
"It is not really a family-oriented type thing so I believe that is why the township did step in and I agree with it. It is kind of odd that you would want to do something like that. But to each his own," said Newkirk.
And others who were planning to bare it all said they will still attend the haunted house wearing just underwear.
"It is still something. You know getting scared in your underwear is different than getting scared with your clothes on. So yeah, I will still do it," said Cristian Padiloa, of Sinking Spring.
Event organizers said they are disappointed, but they will try for the naked challenge again next year.
