Christie provided the keynote address at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night. The Governor amped up the crowd with his fiery speech.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie walked on stage with a mission Tuesday night, delivering a blunt speech about the nation's political leadership.
"Our leaders today have decided it is more important to be popular, to do what is easy and say 'yes' rather than to say no when 'no' is what's required," said Christie.
He said Republicans have to stand up to offer solutions to the nation's biggest problems, even if the solutions are unpopular. Christie talked about his experiences as Governor as examples.
"They said it was impossible to touch the third rail of politics. To take on the public sector unions and to reform a pension and health benefit system that was headed to bankruptcy," said Christie. "With bipartisan leadership we saved taxpayers $132 billion over 30 years and saved retirees their pension. We did it."
Christie also talked up Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.
"Mitt Romney will tell us the hard truths we need to hear to end the torrent of debt that is compromising our future and burying our economy."
It was clear that Republican's were pumped up, but we wanted to know what folks in New Jersey had to say about the speech.
"Did you watch Governor Christie's speech last night? Unfortunately I did not."
Many people we spoke with said they didn't tune in because they just didn't have the time.
"I enjoyed everything he said," smiled Mary Davenport. "And I just enjoyed his whole speech last night."
It was pointed out that during the speech Christie only mentioned Mitt Romney's name seven times, while saying 'I' more than three dozen times.
"I think he did an adequate job," said Andy Ross. "Not a tremendous job, but he did a great job and I think the Republican party will be proud of him."
