PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. -

The Saint Luke's half-marathon is this weekend, and after everything one New Jersey man has been through, 13.1 miles might not seem so difficult.

Phillipsburg resident Eugene Birmingham is getting ready to lace up his sneakers for the run in Allentown Sunday.

Birmingham running in the race isn't just remarkable because of his age-- he's 71 years old-- but because, less than a year ago.. he was in a *coma.*

"I went for a bike ride, I had an accident, I ran into a tree, according to the article, and I was knocked unconscious and they airlifted me to Saint Luke's," Birmingham said.

Birmingham spent eleven days in a coma, and several months after that recovering.

But just recovering wasn't enough for the seasoned runner and biker; Birmingham says the half-marathon was an added challenge he set for himself.
