ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A former Allentown police officer is a candidate for magisterial judge.

Michael Rooney, 49, is running for the judge seat for District 31-1-02, which includes Allentown's 4th, 7th and 11th wards.

Rooney is currently the supervisor for the Lehigh County Regional Central Booking Center, which processes DUIs and defendants accused of misdemeanors and felonies in Lehigh County.

He was an Allentown police officer for 17 years and plans to crossfile to see Republican and Democratic nominations in the May 21 primary.

“I will continue my dedication to public service once elected. I will perform the duties of Magisterial District Judge with fairness, honesty and integrity," Rooney said. "I will be impartial and fair and I also have a thorough understanding of the duties, ethics, regulations, and responsibilities of a district judge."

Rooney is a graduate of Dieruff High School in Allentown and attended Lehigh County Community College and Penn State University Allentown campus.
