Messy Monday: Snow, Ice, and Rain on the way
Updated On: Jan 27 2013 07:20:42 PM CST
The cloud cover will gradually increase overnight as an area of low pressure slides closer to the region. Eventually some snow will push into the area by daybreak on Monday causing slick conditions to develop on area roadways.
The snow/sleet will last for a few hours on Monday morning accumulating around a coating to an inch before changing over to ice and then plain rain. The change over should occur during the midday and afternoon hours on Monday as temperatures start to creep above the freezing mark.
A coating of ice will accumulate on surface that are below 32 degrees or untreated creating some very slippery conditions as well.
Temperatures will continue to rise on Monday night keeping the precipitation as just plain rain for the rest of the event.
However, because all surfaces will below 32 degrees anything that's untreated will begin to see an icy accumulation.
By the mid to late afternoon/early evening temperatures will rise above 32 degrees, so that accumulation should cease.
That will be too late for commuters traveling in the morning and afternoon hours on Monday when the area will generally see a coating to an inch of snow, then a thin coating of ice.
If you need to travel Monday, you can check our LIVE TRAFFIC CAMERAS before you head out. Area school and business delays will also be posted here at WFMZ.com.
As mentioned early temperatures will continue to rise into the evening hours, but it does stop there because they are expected to gradually increase overnight. This means that Monday's high temperature may come in the late evening hours.
The warmth continues to funnel in on Tuesday when highs will top out close to 50 degrees and that's not even the warmest temperature we're expecting over the next six days.
Tonight: Increasing clouds with snow toward dawn. Low: 19
Monday: Snow changing to ice and then rain late. An inch of snow possible with a thin coating of ice. Patchy fog. High: 33 Low: 32
