Men lead Allentown police on chase after suspected drug deal
Five men are in custody after Allentown police said they led authorities on a chase through Lehigh County Wednesday night.
Allentown Assistant Police Chief Joe Hanna said police were doing a vice drug investigation around 6:45 p.m. near Eighth and Allen streets when they witnessed what they believed to be a drug deal. Officers called for marked police cars.
The car being watched--an older model Oldsmobile--took off with five men inside, police said.
Police followed, and watched as the car stopped at Ninth and Cedar streets where two men got out of the backseat and ran away. Before they got out of the car, they threw little white bags out of the window, Hanna said, which was later found to be heroin. The men were later captured, police said.
Hanna said police continued to chase the car on Sumner Avenue into Whitehall Twp. and MacArthur Road onto Route 22 east. State police were called to assist and the car was stopped a short time later near Airport Road.
The driver, 38-year-old Cory Scott Duda, of 1029 Spring Garden Street, Allentown, was charged with tampering with evidence, possession of heroin, criminal conspiracy, driving while operating privledges suspended or revoked, fleeing or attempting to elude police, failure to turn with required signals, reckless driving, careless driving, accident causing damage to unattended vehicle or property, six counts of disregarding stop sights, and three counts of disregarding traffic signals.
Hanna said Duda had an outstanding warrant for escaping from work release, and also resisted arrest.
Gite Devorit Brooks, 49, of 321 N. Fifth Street, Allentown, was charged with criminal conspiracy and possession.
Youseff Albert Milliron, 44, with no current address, was charged with criminal conspiracy and possession of heroin.
The two men who jumped out of the car and ran were identified as 27-year-old Anthony Mazzarella and 38-year-old Michael Malone. Neither had a current address.
Mazzarella was charged with possession of heroin and opium and criminal conspiracy and Malone was charged with tampering with evidence and simple possession of heroin.
Duda, Milliron, Mazzarella, and Malone were unable to post bail, according to their court dockets. No bail info was available for Brooks.
