Small businesses in Berks and Montgomery County are breathing a sigh of relief after police charged three men with burglarizing their stores. Sal Marciante wakes up every morning, goes into his restaurant, Marco's Pizza, and spends the day serving up italian food to those in Douglass Township, Montgomery County. But on the morning of July 11th he was the victim of a smash and grab burglary.
"We were like, what happened, what is going on here," said Marco's Pizza Owner Sal Marciante.
Marco's Pizza had been burglarized. Police says the suspects threw bricks through the glass door and got away with a cash register full of money. But Marco's was not the only place hit. China King next door was also vandalized that morning.
"He was pretty upset at first because he had to get a whole new cash register and waste more money on that after losing money and everything," said China King employee Samantha Sctuba.
Store owners were not just upset that their cash registers were stolen, but also that they had to replace damage to their stores.
"For the tile I paid close to $2,500 because I did the whole floor. The cash register cost me $800, and the glass for my landlord, it probably cost like $300-$400 bucks," said Marciante.
Police charged Ralph Abreu, Alex Ramos and Jose Cortes with multiple counts of burglary and criminal trespassing. Store owners say they are relieved these men were charged.
"I think he is going to be pretty happy," said Sctuba.
"I hope the guys learned their lessons. I am glad that they got caught," said Marciante.
Police say the suspects burglarized more than 30 businesses across four counties.
