Authorities say a brazen bank robber who has eluded police for years has finally been collared in Berks County.
The arrest happened in the 500 block of Franklin Street in West Reading late Tuesday morning.
Marlon Larry, 38, is accused of robbing a Bank of America branch in 2007 in Kansas City, Missouri, investigators said.
"Larry allegedly struck the manager in the head with a handgun and subsequently fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money," said Bridget Patton, spokesperson for the F.B.I.
Larry fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to an employee of the bank, investigators said.
The F.B.I. would not reveal how long Larry was hiding out in West Reading.
But what is clear is that Larry is part of a growing number of high-profile suspects who have decided to seek refuge in Berks County.
In February, Josue Reyes Velez, wanted for murder in Puerto Rico, was arrested on S. 14th Street in Reading.
In November 2011, Luis Santiago, also wanted for murder in Puerto Rico, was arrested in the 1200 block of Mulberry Street in Reading.
Officers say coming to Berks County is just not a good idea, and that law enforcement agencies work together to catch suspects.
"We all work together. We have different ways of contacting each other. Letting us know what we're looking for. If there's any inkling that somebody might be in the area, we're all looking for them," said Sgt. Keith Phillips, West Reading Police Dept.
Larry is expected to be transported back to Kansas City, Missouri, soon, where he will face charges in connection with the bank robbery.
