Marine Views Baby's Birth Through Skype

A Montgomery County military family has been united through the power of Skype.

Whitney Reichard's husband, Caleb, is currently serving with the Marines in Afghanistan. He's a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense specialist.

He and Whitney are from East Greenville. Caleb left for his tour of duty on July 16 when Whitney was several months pregnant with their first child.

Whitney went into labor this past weekend, and when she did, she e-mailed Caleb. And he was able to witness his baby's birth through Skype.

"Without being able to do this, he wouldn't have been able to see a picture of her for," said Reichard. "It takes about two weeks for packages to get there. Without technology, it wouldn't have happened and we are just so thankful to Grand View for setting us up on Skype because it was the next best thing to him being there."

Lyndie Grace Reichard was born Saturday evening at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, Bucks County.

Whitney said she and her new baby hope to be reunited with Caleb in February.
