EXETER TWP., Pa. -

A man accused of tormenting two women and holding them hostage is heading to trial.

Most charges against Mark Shirey were held for court Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Shirey stole more than $2,000 from a woman he was dating and the woman's mother, according to court documents.

Shirey would threaten the women with a knife in their home in Exeter Township, authorities said.

Shirey's family members said they're shocked by the allegations.

"First thing I said was 'No way. That is not my brother. That is not Mark.' I don't know what happened exactly because I wasn't there, but I know I've been down to their house plenty of times and there was no signs of any kind of problems," said Heather Zimmerman, sister of the accused.

Last week, the two women Shirey lived with told 69 News that Shirey helped them run errands, but one day he seemed to snap.
