Victim died after being tied to tree for almost 24 hours

SOUTH MANHEIM TWP., Pa. -

Two men have been charged with homicide in the death of a man who police said was tied to a tree for 20 hours in the extreme heat and humidity.

The body of Bryan Robert Smith was found early Tuesday morning deep in the woods off a dirt road in the area of Manheim and Woodland roads in South Manheim Twp., Schuylkill Co.

Keith Reber and Daniel Dull admitted to investigators that they led Smith, 26, into the woods behind Reber's house at 294 Meadow Drive, tied him to a tree, placed a gag around his mouth and left him there alone for approximately 20 hours, police said. Smith was dead when Reber went back to check on him, police said.

"They had gone to Schuylkill Haven Police Department to confess to what had occurred," said Tpr David Beohm, Pa. State Police.

Both Reber, 48, and Dull 25, spent Tuesday being grilled by investigators inside the Schulykill Haven state police barracks.

"All three knew each other. They were friends, acquaintances," said Beohm.
Smith's "so-called" friends received a free ride to their arraignment by Magisterial District Judge James Ferrier.

Both Reber and Dull have been slapped with criminal homicide and a long list of other serious charges, including conspiracy, aggravated assault and kidnapping.

Both men have been committed to the Schuylkill County Prison without bail.

Police have not offered a motive for the killing.
